Why Fly With Singapore Airlines

24 Jan 2023 8 mins

Singapore’s position as one of the world’s great aviation hubs and a leisurely gateway to Asia’s riches is largely due to the pivotal role played by the city-flag-carrier state’s Singapore Airlines over the last 70 years. Singapore Airlines is the country’s national airline and a 5-star carrier. From its primary hub, the acclaimed Singapore Changi Airport, the airline serves over 60 destinations in 35 countries. Over the years, the carrier has earned a stellar reputation and commands a strong presence in Southeast Asia, as well as the rest of the world.

Singapore Airlines (SIA)
Singapore Airlines flights
Singapore Airlines, formerly known as Malayan Airways, was founded in 1947. It is Singapore’s national airline and is based at Singapore Changi Airport. The airline serves more than 60 destinations from this hub, with flights to Seoul, Tokyo, and Melbourne among the most popular. It is especially strong in Southeast Asian and Australian destinations (the so-called Kangaroo Route), but it also serves 6 continents and 35 countries. Singapore Airlines operates over 100 planes, the majority of which are Airbus aircraft, with a smaller number of Boeings. The company is well-known for frequently updating its fleet of aircraft. It has codeshare agreements with many other airlines and is a Star Alliance member. It has codeshare agreements with Air Canada, Virgin Atlantic, and JetBlue Airways, among others. Singapore Airlines’ subsidiaries include Silk Air, Scoot, and Tiger Airways.

Check-in via the internet
Passengers can check in for their Singapore Airlines flight online beginning 48 hours before departure. Passengers can print their boarding card using either a mobile device or a web browser. To successfully check in, they will need their ticket number or booking reference, as well as their last name. Passengers can check in online up to two hours before their flight time. Passengers can check in at the airport as well, either at a Singapore Airlines desk or a kiosk. The airport closes check-in 40 minutes before a flight departs.

Allowance for hand luggage
Passengers on Singapore Airlines flights must ensure that their hand luggage measures no more than 115 cm in length, width, and height. This size restriction applies regardless of ticket class. Economy and Premium Economy passengers can only bring one piece of hand luggage on the plane, whereas Business and First class passengers can bring two items total. On a Singapore Airlines flight, no single piece of hand luggage may weigh more than 7 kg. Passengers may also bring an additional item onto the plane, such as a handbag, laptop bag, camera, or duty-free purchases. This additional item must be less than 40 x 30 x 10 cm in size. If your baggage exceeds these limits, it will be checked in and counted against your allowance.

Policy on checked baggage
Checked baggage allowances are weight-based on all Singapore Airlines flights except those to or from Brazil or the United States. These weights are currently limited to up to 30 kg for Economy passengers, 35 kg for Premium Economy passengers, 40 kg for Business passengers, and up to 50 kg for First class passengers. Infants are permitted to check up to 10 kg of luggage. Checked baggage allowances on flights to or from the United States or Brazil are defined by the number of pieces a passenger can take. All passengers are permitted to bring two pieces of checked luggage, each weighing 23 kg for Economy and Premium Economy passengers and 32 kg for First and Business class passengers. Sporting equipment will be accepted as checked baggage for passengers. Any luggage that exceeds the allowance will be charged a fee.

Luxury in the sky
Singapore Airlines provides the best possible comfort regardless of the destination or class of travel.

Profitable economics
When you book Economy with Singapore Airlines, there will be no more muttering about ‘cattle class’ travel. Those who are used to being crammed into a budget airline’s cramped seats will be in for a surprise when flying Economy with Singapore Airlines.

The thrill of premium economy
Premium Economy seats have a width of up to 19.5 inches and are arranged in a more spacious 2-4-2 layout for those who want a little more space and stretching room.

Professionals in the field of business
While the type of Business Class seating varies depending on the aircraft, all Singapore Airlines passengers can expect spacious cabins, comfortable leather seating, and high-quality personalised service.

Travel in First Class
Singapore Airlines’ First Class cabins are designed for passengers who want more personalised service in a more refined and exclusive environment.

The suite lifestyle
Singapore Airlines’ Suites are the way to go for passengers who want to travel in the most luxurious way possible while also enjoying a high level of privacy. As they say, it’s heaven up here.

The ultimate airline journey
Singapore Airlines’ fleet is constantly changing and being upgraded as new planes replace older, less efficient models. But it’s not just that aircraft are constantly being renewed and improved; Singapore Airlines upgrades across all of its operations as a matter of course, which is another reason why it’s one of the world’s most award-winning airlines.

Food
The airline has recently begun collaboration with wellness brand Como Shambhala to develop a new health-focused in-flight menu, with dishes designed to nourish the body and alleviate travel-induced stresses, such as fatigue. Look for them on the Book the Cook menus, and a new wellness menu with specially curated dishes will be introduced later this year, Poached fish, sweetcorn and young coconut soup, and silken chicken salad are among the dishes on the menu. Singapore Airlines offers Yummy!, an in-flight meal service for children travelling in Suites, First, and Business Class, with meals specially tailored for the smaller traveller, who can even pick their favourite meals prior to departure. In addition, a recently launched line of specially designed vegetarian meals for children broadens their menu options.

Entertainment
In 2001, the airline made history when its KrisWorld in-flight entertainment system became the first to offer video and audio-on-demand to all passengers. Today, all passengers have access to KrisWorld’s massive collection of over 1,800 movies, TV shows, radio, music, games, and other digital content to appeal to all ages and tastes, including children. Individualisation is also possible thanks to Singapore Airlines’ mobile app, which allows passengers to save playlists and preferences for future flights. When you add noise-cancelling headphones, your entertainment is hermetically sealed from any outside interference or interruption, at least until you say so. And it’s entirely up to you whether you want to listen to Up Where We Belong on repeat throughout your flight.
